You Are What You Think!

Thoughts Determine Who You Are.

In everyday life as well as in network marketing today this statement is valid.

In everyday life you will be seen as friendly or grumpy, helpful or self centered,  wise or dumb, and what ever it is it is the result of your thoughts. If you can live with the image you have created for yourself, fine.

In network marketing today you are also whatever your thoughts make you. Only in this business it is an  absolute necessity to work on yourself.

Working on yourself means working on your thought patterns. You require a mastermind team of well meaning people to support you in this complex venture.

As a rule we are so used to “who we are” that it takes input from outside to get our thoughts going in a different direction, to reach that point where we have that life changing AHA-moment that will brake the old rut and makes us start on a different path.

Why is is particularly important in network marketing today? Well, it is a business of people helping people and those who are searching for support are looking for role models they want to follow. Accordingly you need to become the person who you want to be in business with. Yes, as you will then be the person also others will want to be in business with.

So many people try to advertise their business in the most colourful way, yet in fact people do not follow a business they follow you. they follow “who you are”. They follow the role model they want to become.

The logic is clear. If you want to become a first rate race driver you will want to be coached by one. If you want to become a highly reputed musician, you will have to learn from the best. And of course – if you want to become successful in network marketing today you need to follow the person who is doing it successfully and in the way that appeals to you.

Communication skills are an absolute MUST in network marketing today. After all  you are working with people from many different walks of life.

Unless you have a good grasp of how to interact your success in building your network marketing business will be down at zero.

First of all you need to meet people where they actually are and you do not want to create a situation where confrontation is the first result you trigger. You want a smooth discussion with mutual understanding so that you lay the basis for work.

Some points to help you  start out:

  • Pay attention to the situation as it develops
  • Hear what  the person is saying and show respect
  • Keep your enthusiasm in check – less may well be more
  • Stay calm and don’t be pushy
  • Listen to what the person is saying
  • Guide  them so that they reach their conclusions themselves

Paying attention to what a person is saying or how they act as per body language will give you a clue if that person is comfortable in your company and in the conversation or if the time is right for them to enter into a deeper conversation.

When you hear and recognise what somebody is saying you get some information that will help you in your argument and that person feels lifted up as a result of your interest.

When you pour all your enthusiasm about your business opportunity over them they will likely pull back as in most cases people are uninformed about network marketing today or perhaps even have a biased opinion which needs to be dispersed.

A calm conversation without pushiness or rash arguments will help open up your partner in conversation and they will feel “normal” and be less on guard. Many people have had too many experiences of the other kind which they didn’t like at all.

When you listen without an agenda you will be able to find out the reason why somebody is looking for a business – their goals they want to achieve

People have to come to their own conclusions – if you try to convince them you set them up for opposition as a rule. People do not want to be persuaded or even brainwashed – so show the facts and let them draw their own conclusions.

This summary is just the tip of the ice-berg when it comes to communication skills – this applies not only for network marketing today but also for every other situation in life where discussions, conversations or even negotiations need to be conducted between people.

On the one hand network marketing today is very simple, but on the other hand it is very complex.

It is simple as it always was as it is a people’s business and we have been giving recommendations all our lives. However, it is complex, as the personal aspect has to meld with a high-tech world, the world of using the internet.

In our days it is obvious that using the internet as a tool to market your network marketing business makes it easy to take your business world-wide. So of course you have to learn the right techniques to make this happen.

This is one place where greed and ego tend to kick in:  it is all about leads and it is all about tools – too many network marketers have an easy prey in their downlines when it comes to selling them leads and tools online – may it be through an affiliate scheme of may it be through a direct sales funnel – doesn’t matter – naive and untrained people are being taken advantage of.

Another area of course are commission plans. Modern computer technology makes it easy for companies to set up commission plans which are complex and involved – in the early days when bonus checks had to be worked out semi- automatic this would have been impossible. Computers make these calculations as per program, so no problem. The tricky part of it is the complexity of the commission plans – too many people don’t understand them or at least not completely – they are at the mercy of their uplines, especially those who understand crunching the numbers and who understand completely how to maximize the pay-plan.

As a result it happens that the advice given is not entirely unbiased and  newcomers may make a lot less money than they could make provided they had received the kind of advice that comes from the heart and has the best interest of the newcomers at heart. A huge delay and handicap if you are looking for success in building your network marketing business.

These are two examples where greed and ego can kick in  and I strongly advise to learn the details of a commission plan in network marketing today if you want to be sure that you are safe.

Plan – Do – Review – Adjust

Plan – Do – Review – Adjust was an approach which was discussed by Art Jonak at a seminar I attended this autumn. It sounds pretty simple when you see it, yet it has power – power to change imageyour business to such an extent that you suddenly will find yourself on the road to success.

PLAN

Of course you need to plan! Most people who join a network marketing opportunity let it “flow”. As a result they find themselves in a position where they are only the observers of success. Folks – network marketing is a business not a game! there is no business which you can develop without a plan. It would be like building a house with out one. There is no way this leads to success!

DO

As the famous German poet Johann Wolfgang v. Goethe said – “It is not enough to know, you also need to apply it”!

There are so many people out there who gather information and more information, they list pros and cons and “know it all” yet they never ever make a move to pull all of it into life. Eventually some of them even claim “to have worked so much and yet they didn’t become successful” – well of course not – a house doesn’t get built by studying the plan!

REVIEW

There are of course those who plan, who do and yet realise at some stage that they are not getting to where they want to be – you need to give it some time to find out that you are actually stuck but if you do, take step 3 and start to REVIEW – list what has worked and what hasn’t ask those you co-operate with how they see certain things and then make a change

ADJUST

But be careful – make 1 change at a time only! WHY? Well if you change several things at the same time you have no chance of knowing which of the changes turned the ship around!

If you want to build your network marketing business in an entrepreneurial style you need to apply this process again and again. It is the shortest way to YOUR SUCCESS!

Today network marketing is an excellent chance to make money online. Once you focus, learn the required skills, take control of the work you do in a collaborative team you should be able to achieve your desired goal.

You agree? – Well , why do you think statistics tell us another story?

Signing up  for a network marketing business – no matter if online or on paper – what you are required to check-mark the policies and procedures as accepted. Everybody does so. However only a very small percentage of all people ever read them in the first place and of those who read them quite a number don’t fully understand them and accept them as “legal  talk that is required”. It is a fact, however, that it is the contents of these policies and procedures which lets many people fail in network marketing.

There are all sorts of tricky clauses which are not taken serious in the process. People miss the awareness that these clauses are contained to be used and they will be the victim. I want to give you a few examples:

  • Renewal: There are companies who claim they need it to be able to get rid of the “black sheep among the distributors – hm…
  • Termination clauses: for the most varied reasons – mind you – as a rule these are applied once you start earning more money – when you are terminated then it saves the company a lot of money!
  • Your Spouse is forbidden to have another business – it is enacted by companies but it is not within human rights to forbid a spouse to  have another business of their own – it is – hm -  like “slavery”.
  • A great number of subtle “hoops” not easy to see or find

The above list is are hints and it is by far not complete. To really know what you are  in for you might need help to analyze.

I do hope you are now aware of the importance of policies and procedures and you will make sure you investigate them thoroughly so that you will not be in for a major surprise at some stage of your career.

If you have not had the success you dream of so far this might be one of the things you need to look into – in most cases your lack of success is not your fault.

To have a healthy business with  long-term stability, where teamwork, flexibility, respect, collaboration, both within the team and with the company are part of the everyday business culture you need to know that you have a good balance on all levels of the business you are working.

You for sure know the story of the old man who died in the floods. Here it is:

In an area rain caused the water of the river to rise. After a while the roads had turned into shallow rivers too. People were hurrying to get out into safety. A group bypassed an old man who was looking out on the road from the window of his house. They asked him to come along – they offered him their help. the old man said not to worry as he was sure  God would help him. A while later when the water level had increased in the roads some people passed bye in a boat and again wanted to take him along and again the old man refused their help. then finally when the situation in that area had become desperate and the old man was sitting on the flat roof of his house a helicopter passed bye and the crew wanted to pull the old man up, who in spite of the precarious situation refused yet again and kept waiting for God’s support. In the end he died in the floods. Coming up to heaven he met God and was very angry. He told God that he had been a firm believer all his life and that he felt his trust in him had been in vain. God replied: I sent you the walking people, the boat as well as the helicopter – what else do you think I should have done?

This story is very critical  for real life. There are so many people who by normal means are having a touch time making ends meet and yet they constantly refuse to step on the road to success. Some are offered:

  • Various network marketing solutions. They often don’t even look at them and if they do they refuse.
  • They are offered free network marketing coaching which would show them how to succeed in network marketing and again they refuse.

Many of them have at some stage in life met up with a weird network marketing definition and have closed their ears as a result not realising that they have been doing referral marketing all their lives.

Even as a child we know how to promote what we want and want to get friends join us at the playground, for an ice cream, a book, a TV program or what ever. Later in life we are hot when we tell our friends about a super bargain we have just found, a wonderful restaurant, a holiday location, where to buy the cheapest petrol and “umpteen” other things – the only snag about it – we never ever got paid for it.

All of a sudden, when this natural be haviour is brought to them by the name of a network marketing opportunity, as a solution to step on the road of success which may put them in a position to finally own their life, it is not being recognised.

Fortunately many people eventually  have an “aha” moment where they wake up, where they see the chance of having success in network marketing – although some never do. which group do you belong to?

This is the point where free network marketing training becomes attractive all of a sudden, they grab mlm on line training and finally get going on their road to success.

Who Refuses Opportunity?

Some people are so focused on looking at the closed door that they don’t see others opening for them!

 

Have you ever met people and talked to them about what you are doing? Have you found out that they were actually hoping to earn more money to get bye more easily? And yet to your surprise they have said NO?

This happens when people come from a position of lack. They have a belief system which doesn’t permit them to “deserve” more so they say no, or perhaps they even have just a bunch of excuses – yet excuses are a way to say no. This is a matter of experience – they do not even dare to say no as excuses are a way of making things look better for themselves as they just said before, that they would actually want more money. By way of excuses they convince themselves that there are enough reasons not to be able to do whatever you offered them.

As Tom Schreiter says: It wouldn’t be “no” for rich people. They don’t refuse opportunity. They are not programmed to look for the reasons why something won’t work. They are conditioned to look for reasons why something can work. There are always hundreds of reasons why an opportunity will not work, but also hundreds of reasons why the opportunity will work. It is your choice where you put your focus on.

In our society many people are conditioned for lack for one reason or other. To help overcome this handicap you can join a mastermind group which will help you overcome this obstacle. Studying and discussing a personal programming which is an obstacle together with like minded people is the best way of re-writing your program. This is a secure way to achieve success! Work on Your Dream

We have been talking about goals – a lot in fact – so why now talk about your dream?  Your dream is an expression of the soul of life of your nature.

Years back when I first met up with someone who asked me about my dreams I was a bit put out as I had left my dreams behind me like so many. Passing through the educational system with its attitude of rationalism and the request that knowledge has to be acquired at any cost, had step by step and thoroughly eliminated the dreams. Not that I was aware of it as no one ever talked about them apart from dreaming during sleep and even talking about that was not too popular in those days.

The friend who had alerted me to think about my dreams obviously had encountered many people like me who had lost their dreams altogether. He started to coach me carefully, asked me what I had wished for as IM000480a small child and in my early years at school and even then I found it hard to connect. I met other people in groups who talked about their dreams and how important they are in life and so slowly I dared to risk a thought and another one and I used my so well trained rational mind to go that way and imagine. It was a start, yet I realised that something was missing. For me my dreams at that stage were a list of ideas which appealed to me as being nice, but they didn’t impact me enough to get me going after them. When discussing the topic with like minded people I even encountered another obstacle. They kept talking about following the dreams with passion as that would make them real and tangible. Wow – what a challenge – where do you get passion from when you have lost it as a result of the conditioning you have received for years and years…

Does this situation perhaps ring a bell in you? Do you feel odd, to say the least, when somebody asks you what your dreams are? Today the topic of dreaming, of creating your vision, of working on the dreams, the vision has become a lot more popular and more and more people are at least in theory aware of this concept. There are workshops available and teams who dedicate time to this kind of work and also in good business trainings the dream and the vision have found space.

If you are new  to this kind of work I strongly suggest you get yourself a pin board which you make your dream/vision board – you can start off with small things which come to your mind which you might want or do  and which at the moment have no room in your life and as you keep looking at the board you will step by step develop an  interest and a liking for adding ideas or even change some until at some stage you will realise that you have developed a relationship with your dreams and that you actually draw them into life through your imagination, later in your thoughts, your planning. And then one or the other of the dreams on your vision board will manifest in life and  now, if it did not happen before, you can also connect with the passion you are supposed to have for your dreams.
