Network marketing today

 

…how do they relate? Let’s look at real life today and let’s be honest.

The world   is changing at a rapid pace and change even keeps accelerating.

  • We have come from hundreds of years of being either independent or totally dependent. Independent either through inherited wealth and status or else through being a landlord and farmer or a trades man who made his living through proudly working the trade of the family or the one that was learned. Dependent as a servant, slave, owned peasant and the like.
  • Then the industrial age dawned which as any major change in society brought not only added opportunities but also a shift in wealth/poverty and status. It was in the sixties of the past century when general income reached a level that people considered themselves well-off. However as everything in life also this period gave way to the natural cycle of up and down.

It was in those days when the idea of network marketing dawned. So by now it should be quite established in the minds of people, however it is not.

Like in any independent business or trade the scope of variety is so big and of course also the “hang-ons” have discovered this new branch which has made it difficult to create an excellent reputation. Adventurers and hang-ons tend to get into everything which can be done at low cost in their constant quest of finding something that might give them and income for nothing and network marketing requires none of the investments you normally have when you start your own business.

Let’s look at the essence. What do most people want in life? they want happiness and an income that gives them a life-style of freedom. Freedom to enjoy life, to be with family and friends, to travel, to have a lovely home – whatever, let your imagination play…

Can you have all of this in a job? Not easily nowadays and not really in the best of days either. Of course there is always a small group who will make it anyways, but that is not the major part of the population.

In network marketing today:

  • do you have to work? Definitely.
  • does it take time to become established? Definitely
  • do you need to be educated? Definitely – Apprenticeship on the job!
  • do you have a long-term perspective? Definitely
  • do you create a life-time income? Definitely, provided you do it until then

And: you don’t have a boss, you don’t have a 9 to 5 job, you will not be fired (instead you can fire your boss at some stage), you have no limitation as to how far you want to grow it, you can have success at network marketing today by doing what is required.

Network Marketing Today is both:

A Blessing – you are running your own business

A Curse – you have to do it yourself (none kicks you to be active)

Network Marketing Today is all about YOU, your will to achieve your goals and your motivation to do the required work. If you do create success in network marketing today you will be living a life you could only dream of whilst you were an employee.

 Mistakes? This sounds terrible!

You will meet up with it again and again that some  heavy hitters tell their downlines that they definitely need to change. They  tell these newbies to get out and moving to sell the product.

This statement in itself needs to make you alert. Network marketing to day certainly is no selling business. It is  business of “building people”

We tell you that YOU are perfect as you are. Everybody is perfect in their own way. There is no need to change and become a sales person! It wouldn’t make sense, especially when you know that ninety-two percent of all people absolutely dislike these aggressive and pushy sales people.

  • Shopping has become an outing. People wander through malls, look and check what they can find, sometimes even take several visits to various places until they make up their mind. They definitely want to “buy” and not be sold. So why on earth should you want to become a pushy sales person?
  • Now the story is totally different when you need some information. when you need someone who is knowledgeable about the thing you want to buy. May be you want to buy a camcorder or a new TV and you want to know all the different features. In such a case it may well happen that in a mall you are looking in vain for a person who will be able to give you a professional reply or even a recommendation as to what to get best.

Recommendation is one of the magic words in network marketing today. It is not “go out and sell” as some of those heavy hitter type leaders proclaim, but recommend. You have been doing this all your life anyways – from early childhood onwards. So with some additional skills at communication and  some personal growth you will be able to pickup a check for what you have been doing all your life.

Fortunately the number of leaders is small who proclaim selling as well as making a list of family and friends to persuade them to join you in your network marketing business. These approaches don’t work. Someone who is not a sales person will not become one and family members are very poor prospects.

Instead look out for a system that helps you create a steady stream of prospects who are wanting to talk with you, who will be happy to get trained and supported.

Once you have created success in your network marketing business then friends and family will suddenly come round and perhaps even applaud you and tell others that they had always known you were meant for something better. Some may even join you in your network marketing business at that stage hoping that they will also be supported to achieve success as yours. What a joke!

Don’t listen to the wrong kind of advice! You are perfect the way you are!

Don’t Make  a List of Family and Friends!

I know – I know – there are many around who want you to do just this.

Why do I claim it makes no sense:

Look around – most kids know already when they are still attending school which profession they want to do  next. Some want to be teachers, others hairdressers, boys might want to become pilots, farmers or hunters – so many jobs around.

So why would anyone who wants to be a teacher fancy to be on your network marketing list? Or a surgeon who chose this as a vocation, or in fact anyone who chose a job out of their free will. Do you understand why they will avoid you like bad money if you keep offering your network marketing business to them?

Basically there are only about 20 % of the population who actually want to run their own business and among those you have many trades. So only a fraction of all people will be “potential” for network marketing.

As it is in network marketing today, the major percentage of people are struggling – mostly because old belief systems, like “you need to make a list of family and friends” keep being around and newcomers keep buying into it and stepping into the circle of failure of none of their fault. It is time to stop this folly and establish a valid training for network marketer that will eventually change the entire face of this industry by leading more and more people to success in building a network marketing business.

Once you are trained adequately you can stretch out your hand and help other struggling network marketers learn what you have learned and success in network marketing today will be your reward.

Remember the days when network marketing started – 60+ years back!

In those days there were no mobile phones and land lines were comparatively expensive. Anything like the internet was not even imaginable. Consequently the idea of building a network marketing business had to be accomplished applying totally different methods than are used in network marketing today.

 

Historic Methods of Building a Network Marketing Business:

Seeing the circumstances which prevailed it was not surprising to teach things like:

  • Make a list of family and friends
  • Come to a meeting every week
  • Do presentations of the business at home
  • Take prospects to big presentations in some public place
  • Request people to give you recommendations
  • Teach everyone to do the same over

In a way it was a system as it could be taught and copied by newcomers. The hard thing about it was that personal development was non existent then and it was mainly sales people who started up in this new business venture. As a sales person as a rule works by ticking off numbers and increases the numbers to improve results this way to build the business was hard to be coped by others who didn’t belong to the few percent of people who love selling.

The rate of rejection was high and as many people in a desperate desire to make this business work for them got really “sticky” their environment even started  evading them. Of course the reputation of this new born business of network marketing suffered immensely – not only for the stickiness of those who were involved, but also because of the incredible rates of failure.

In network marketing today we still feel some of this impact of the reputation which was created over years – today’s young adults had been watching their parents struggle and fail and others in their immediate environment.

As a result  there is still a high degree of skepticism prevailing – and of course – things which used to be state-of-the-art over many years die hard. So we still find lots of groups today, even companies and organisations, who keep teaching the same old rut over and over again although times have changed.

Not only do we have mobile phones, we also have the internet and all that comes along with it. methods that actually work are a lot different from those of those early days.

Naturally having success in network marketing today means that you have to have adequate training – first of all on going personal development, plus learning of skill which are needed to move along in today’s environment. Develop the wisdom to differentiate and choose what will serve you instead of what will rip you off!

What is your present situation? Are you having the success you have always dreamed of? NO? Well very likely it is not your fault.

What are you being taught by your upline or even the company – does it sound like:

  • make a list of family and friends
  • go back in your life to make the list bigger and add
  • class mates,
  • fellow workers
  • the postman, the milkman and the neighbor’s cat….

If your training looks roughly like that I suggest RUN! This is network marketing as it was done 25 years back or longer, way before the internet.

In Modern MLM there is no need to do any of this. Keep your family and friends. It can’t be fun to see them avoid you only because you have confronted them with your business “umpteen” times.

There is no doubt – not everybody will do everything. That’s good. After all we do need teachers, nurses, bus drivers, lawyers, to name only a few – if they all would be network marketers where would our society be?

The solution is to look out for people who have already expressed an interest in network marketing. See that you connect with them, that you build a relationship, best by learning together how to succeed in a dedicated mastermind group.

Learning in a team builds relationships and some of the people you met and bonded with will be happy to join you also in your business and for the others be happy that the work you did together let them succeed in what they are already doing.

You will say that this sounds easy – well it is in a way, but  you need to learn the skill required to act respectfully on the internet so that you will connect with the people you want. And of course  communication skills and personal development will play a part in the process.

Network Marketing as life is a trip. Very much the same way as you climb a mountain where you get higher up with every single step you take, the steps you take in this business will get you on. And as in the mountains you will run in to level spaces where you take steps but you don’t rise up – in the business these are periods of personal growth. Once you have developed to the next level also your business will get moving again.

Time Or Money?

Given choice, which would you prefer – time or money?    Do you feel this is a lop-sided choice which ever way you take it? Let’s consider it for a moment:

What can you do if you have all the time in the world: You can spend time with your family and friends, enjoy  your hobbies, throw away the alarm, enjoy nature when the weather is fine – what else can you think of you’d do if time at hand was unlimited?

What can you do with plenty of money: You can travel to all the places you fancy,  buy the car of your dreams, pay for a college education for your children, have the house of your dreams, a yacht, a permanent seat at the Metropolitan Opera – what are your ideas with a constant flow of  good income?

Of course you will say – wait a minute – how can I cope with the cost of living when I have all the time at hand I want and on the other hand  how do I do and buy all I want when my time is taken by earning the big income – for me there is no choice:

If I have the time I don’t have the money and if I have the money I am short of time. A vicious circle!

There are several solutions to this problem:

  1. You can have enough money in the bank to live on the interest
  2. You can write a book which becomes a best seller and you live on the royalties
  3. You can marry rich or have rich parents who leave you a wonderful business
  4. You can build a business which gives you a recurring income

to 1: Let’s assume you need a monthly income of 2000 Dollars for all you need – let’s say you manage to invest it that it gives you 6% of interest – how much money do you need to have a monthly income of 2000 Dollars – you can work this one out!

to 2: Well I am sure you were a gifted writer already at school – how come you have not  landed your best seller yet?

to 3: Oh – I understand – you much prefer to marry the love of your life than just anyone  for the sake of money. How many people do you know personally who are “professional siblings” – hm – none?

to 4: So why not jump at number 4 – building a business to create a recurring income. You have been doing network marketing all your life – even in Kindergarten you have already promoted what you liked – a toy or a nice playground where you wanted your friends to go too. Later in life you have recommended a restaurant or a special offer to your friends and family, that way creating plenty of income for the involved business owners – however – you have never made a Dime for your efforts – why not cash on this natural talent you are having?
